15 livestock guarding dogs have new owners in Slovenia

Protecting herds with livestock guarding dogs in combination with electric fences is one of the most effective measures for protecting grazing animals from attacks by large predators. As part of the LIFE WILD WOLF project, the Slovenia Forest Service co-financed the purchase of 15 young Šarplaninac and Tornjak guarding dogs. The dogs come from a working line, which means that their ancestors also performed the function of LGD and were constantly present with the herd, both in the summer in the pasture and in the winter in the barn.

In addition to the dogs, the new owners also received help and support in training from two experienced breeders, who shared their experience and knowledge with them. This advice is highly appreciated by new owners, making it easier for many of them to decide to purchase a dog that, after a period of training and growing up, becomes an indispensable partner in protecting herds.
