LIFE WILD WOLF Workshop Strengthens Damage Inspection Capacity
The LIFE WILD WOLF (LWW) project, in partnership with MZOZT and LIKOMED VETERINA d.o.o., successfully delivered a specialized workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of damage inspectors and improving the quality of livestock damage assessments.
The workshop took place on 23 September in Sinj, bringing together 11 damage inspectors for intensive theoretical and practical training. The training was led by Jens Frank, LWW project partner from SLU and responsible for training damage inspectors in Sweden, alongside Professor Krešimir Severin from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM). The practical training sessions were hosted at the facilities of LIKOMED VETERINA d.o.o.
The main objective of the workshop was to improve the evaluation of damage reports to support more accurate and transparent decision-making regarding compensation for wolf-related livestock losses. During the sessions, particular emphasis was placed on the critical role of damage inspectors in collecting complete and reliable documentation used by ministries when determining compensation eligibility.
The workshop also provided an important platform for inspectors to discuss real field challenges and exchange practical solutions to improve reporting quality and efficiency.
In regions where multiple predators may be present — including wolves, jackals, dogs, and other large carnivores — accurate and thorough damage assessment is essential. Strengthening inspectors’ skills is therefore a key component of effective wolf conservation and conflict mitigation strategies.
