LIFE WILD WOLF Final conference: Developing a toolkit for encounters with wild wolves

9-11 June 2027, Broumov, Czech Republic

The LIFE WILD WOLF project invites researchers, wildlife managers, conservation professionals, and other interested stakeholders to its Final Conference, “Developing a Toolkit for Encounters with Wild Wolves,” taking place from 9 to 11 June 2027 at the historic Broumov Monastery in the Czech Republic.

The conference will present the main results, experiences, and lessons learned from the LIFE WILD WOLF project, bringing together experts and practitioners from across Europe and beyond to exchange knowledge and discuss practical approaches to wolf conservation and human–wolf coexistence.

Particular attention will be given to the challenges associated with wolves living in human-dominated and peri-urban landscapes, including encounters between wolves and people, the management of bold or strongly habituated wolves, and the social dimensions of coexistence.

Conference Programme

The three-day event will combine two days of scientific presentations, workshops, and discussions, followed by a day of field trips.

The programme will be structured around four main themes:

  • Coexistence with large carnivores in human-dominated landscapes: Perspectives, challenges, and emerging approaches.

  • Experiences with bold and strongly habituated wolves: Case studies and management experiences from European countries.

  • LIFE WILD WOLF solutions and best practices: Project results, practical tools, and lessons learned.

  • Social dimensions of human–wolf interactions: Public perceptions, stakeholder engagement, and coexistence strategies.

The conference discussions will conclude with a panel session, providing an opportunity to reflect on the findings and identify priorities for future cooperation.

Call for Abstracts – Submit Your Research!

The Scientific Committee welcomes contributions that provide new insights, practical experiences, or broader perspectives on the conference themes.

Submissions are particularly encouraged on the following topics:

  • Wolf ecology in peri-urban areas

  • Wolf–human interactions

  • Human-dimensions research focused on encounters with wolves

  • Management of bold or strongly habituated wolves

  • Wolf–dog hybridisation and its potential relationship with wolf habituation

  • Management of situations involving intentional or unintentional feeding of wolves by humans

Due to the limited number of available speaking slots, the Scientific Committee will select 6–8 abstracts for flash presentations, each consisting of 6–7 minutes of presentation followed by 2–3 minutes of discussion.

Other relevant contributions will be presented during a dedicated poster session.

Deadline for abstract submissions: 31 January 2027
