Young Wolf “Silvana” Equipped with GPS Telemetry Collar
Researchers from the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana successfully captured and equipped a young female wolf from the Vremščica pack with a GPS telemetry collar on September 22, 2024.
The capture, sedation, and tagging process went smoothly. The wolf, now equipped with a GPS collar, remains part of the pack even after six months. The pack’s home range extends from the Postojna–Koper highway corridor in the north and west, the Postojna–Pivka main road in the east, and the Pivka–Divača railway connection in the south. The pack still includes all three pups from 2024 and at least three adult wolves.
The aim of the research is to closely monitor the spatial movements of wolves near urban areas and agricultural lands, especially pastures and enclosures. The purpose of the study is to obtain wolf movement patterns that will serve as a basis for developing effective measures to prevent damage to livestock.
